چکیده

The rich set of interactions between individuals in the society results in complex community structure, capturing highly connected circles of friends, families, or professional cliques in a social network. Due to the frequent changes in the activity and communication patterns of individuals, the associated social and communication network is subject to constant evolution. The cohesive groups of people in such networks can grow by recruiting new members, or contract by loosing members; two (or more) groups may merge into a single community, while a large enough social group can split into several smaller ones; new communities are born and old ones may disappear. We discuss a new algorithm based on a clique percolation technique, that allows to investigate in detail the time dependence of communities on a large scale and as such, to uncover basic relationships of the statistical features of community evolution. According to the results, the behaviour of smaller collaborative or friendship circles and larger communities, e.g., institutions show significant differences. Social groups containing only a few members persist longer on average when the fluctuations of the members is small. In contrast, we find that the condition for stability for large communities is continuous changes in their membership, allowing for the possibility that after some time practically all members are exchanged. 1 Statistical and Biological Physics Research Group of HAS H-1117 Budapest, Pázmány Péter sétány 1/A, Hungary 2 Dept. of Biological Physics, Eötvös University H-1117 Budapest, Pázmány Péter sétány 1/A, Hungary 3 Center for Complex Network Research and Dept. of Physics, Biology and Computer Science, Northeastern University, Boston, MA 02115, USA corresponding author: Tamás Vicsek, e-mail: [email protected]

Balanced clusters and diffusion process in signed networks

In this paper we study the topology effects on diffusion process in signed networks. Considering a simple threshold model for diffusion process, it is extended to signed networks and some appropriate definitions are proposed. This model is a basic model that could be extended and applied in analyzing dynamics of many real phenomena such as opinion forming or innovation diffusion in social netwo...

A social recommender system based on matrix factorization considering dynamics of user preferences

With the expansion of social networks, the use of recommender systems in these networks has attracted considerable attention. Recommender systems have become an important tool for alleviating the information that overload problem of users by providing personalized recommendations to a user who might like based on past preferences or observed behavior about one or various items. In these systems...

A Novel Approach for Detecting Relationships in Social Networks Using Cellular Automata Based Graph Coloring

All the social networks can be modeled as a graph, where each roles as vertex and each relationroles as an edge. The graph can be show as G = [V;E], where V is the set of vertices and E is theset of edges. All social networks can be segmented to K groups, where there are members in eachgroup with same features. In each group each person knows other individuals and is in touch ...

Tracking Group Evolution in Social Networks

Easy access and vast amount of data, especially from long period of time, allows to divide social network into timeframes and create temporal social network. Such network enables to analyse its dynamics. One aspect of the dynamics is analysis of social communities evolution, i.e., how particular group changes over time. To do so, the complete group evolution history is needed. That is why in th...
